Castles and Cameras

We took our cameras out to play as a family at Chirk Castle in Wales.

Another sunny weekend, for us, equals a National Trust trip. So, to make the most of the bank holiday's blue skies (and Taz's new camera - he loved my little Sony I treated myself to earlier in the year, so decided to get one of his home!) we headed out into Wales to one of the most beautiful National Trust castles.

Chirk Castle was built from around 1295 by King Edward I along the Welsh and English borders - it has been a fortress and a family home, and has beautiful views, expansive gardens, and intriguing interiors to explore.

We've been here many times before, and it's always a lovely day out. For the Easter holidays there were games and challenges set up on the huge lawns, and threading through the garden paths, which Oli thoroughly enjoyed. We didn't spend much time indoors during this visit, as the fresh air was too tempting - as was the ice cream! - but it's well worth the while to investigate. The last time we were here there was an exhibition of 'curiosities' from the castle's history, including artefacts from the family members' journeys around the world, so there's always something new to discover - and one of the reasons we keep coming back.
