It's felt heavy this week, hasn't it? The world feels a bit bleak, and the weather is going for that whole pathetic fallacy thing.

It's difficult to create, or look out for moments of joy when everything around us seems determined to squash it. But, we move, we grow, and we smoosh a cat when it all gets too much.

If this is your first time here, start here to find out what all this is about, then you can find other weeks linked below this blog.

Week Five:

Sunlight streams through blinds, casting striped shadows on a wooden door and carpeted floor, creating a warm, serene atmosphere.

Photo One: Just a quiet Saturday, but the light was streaming through the windows and making beautiful shadows on the walls. I was drawn to the way the light and shadow was playing on the bedroom door - it made me smile, and sometimes that's all a photo needs to do.

Child sliding down a metal slide with a joyful expression. Wooden playground structure in the background, cloudy sky. Brown boots visible.

Photo Two: We took advantage of a break in the rain to head to a nearby swing park. We were the only family there, in-between unpredictable rain storms, so Taz and I played with our cameras, capturing Oli as she played on the slides and games.

Black and white cat sleeping on a striped, fluffy blanket in a cozy indoor setting. Soft, neutral tones create a peaceful mood.

Photo Three: A work-from-home Monday, and Mouse-cat kind of looked how I felt. It made me laugh, so I took a picture. Remember, this isn't about perfect pictures - it's about looking for moments of joy. Especially in otherwise dull days.

A solitary black lamppost against a gray, overcast sky, conveying a minimalist, somber mood.

Photo Four: I forced myself to go on a walk at lunch - I really wasn't in the mood, but usually that's when you find a walk will benefit you the most, isn't it? Stupid walks for stupid mental health. It was a sheet-grey sky, but I liked the way this lamppost looked - bleak and sculptural against the blank background.

Yellow flowers with raindrops in focus, set against a blurred background of a historic building and bare trees on a cloudy day.

Photo Five: I had some errands to run during my lunchbreak, so took a slightly different route through town, as I'd spotted some new plants going into the flower-boxes around town. I love that the city has flowers everywhere - on a sunny day it looks so beautiful, and even against the rain-streaked sky they add a lovely pop of colour to the grey.

Black and white cat lying on a beige blanket, facing left. The room has a soft, warm lighting with a dresser visible in the background.

Photo Six: Honestly I was so ready for the week to be done at this point. I went to bed really early to read for a bit, and Mouse-cat came to join me for a cuddle. Did you know that cats' purrs are supposed to help reduce stress and anxiety? I don't know if that particularly works for me, but it's nice to have a cat-cuddle every now and then when they deign to join me.

Close-up of a black and white cat with bright eyes, lying on a soft gray blanket. Background is softly blurred, creating a cozy mood.

Photo Seven: It may be Friday, but we've got a silly busy weekend ahead, so I wasn't feeling particularly on form with anything. Story of the week, really. I was working from home, so went for a lie-down on my lunchbreak, and disturbed Alfie-cat who was snoozing in a patch of sunlight, but didn't move when I joined him, so I got a bonus cat-smoosh from the cat who doesn't usually like too much fussing.

A few other photos from the week

Let's hope for a brighter week ahead, hey?
